The tuna companies NIRSA, EUROFISH, JADRAN, SERVIGRUP and TRIMARINE, which are associated in TUNACONS to promote an improvement project for the purse seine tuna fishery in the Eastern Pacific Ocean (EPO), signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation between them and the Aquatic Resources Authority of Panama (ARAP).

There are Panamanian flag vessels In the TUNACONS FIP and on August 13 we sign this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). It provides a framework for the relationship and tends to the collaboration of both parties in the Action Plan of the Fisheries Improvement Project.

ARAP’s mission is to ensure the development of a productive and social culture of aquatic resources in a sustainable manner, in harmony with the environment, to improve the quality of life. By having a sustainable mission, ARAP is aware of the importance of achieving the certification of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and therefore will assume a cooperative role; will support, manage and execute the functions assigned to make the relationship effective, achieving the best results for both.

The tuna companies that are part of the project have expressed their strong and determined commitment to the sustainable development of the fishery, adopting and supporting the best strategies for the conservation of the populations of tropical tunas and ecosystems in the Eastern Pacific Ocean.
