Atuneros miembros de Fundación TUNACONS se comprometen con la transparencia de la iniciativa mundial Global Fishing Watch
Esta es una alianza trascendente para la pesca industrial de la región, estableciendo una base de cooperación técnica entre TUNACONS y Global Fishing Watch para fortalecer la transparencia y mejorar la ciencia, en el marco de conservación y ordenamiento para la pesquería de atunes tropicales en el Océano Pacífico Oriental.
La Fundación TUNACONS participará con los 60 barcos cerqueros de sus 8 miembros en proyectos de investigación que busquen mejorar el conocimiento científico sobre la pesquería de atunes con red de cerco, y al mismo tiempo, cooperar en el cumplimiento de las regulaciones dispuestas por la autoridad pesquera nacional y la Comisión Interamericana del Atún Tropical (CIAT).
Las dos organizaciones mediante la aplicación de herramientas analíticas avanzadas para facilitar el acceso a la información sobre el esfuerzo pesquero, reconoce que la cooperación en el intercambio de información sobre pesquerías que inicia entre ambas entidades privadas será ventajosa para seguir fortaleciendo la sostenibilidad de la pesquería.

Detalles técnicos
El entendimiento mutuo pacta que el propósito de este Memorando de Entendimiento (“MoU”) es establecer un marco de colaboración entre las Partes para el intercambio de datos relacionados con la pesca del atún y que para el cumplimiento y desarrollo de los objetivos del presente MoU, la Fundación TUNACONS compartirá datos asociados a la fuente del Sistema de Seguimiento de Buques (VMS) de los buques de sus miembros u operados por ellos. Global Fisihing Watch utilizará los datos para el desarrollo tecnológico de sus productos y proporcionará un espacio de trabajo privado a la Fundación TUNACONS en la plataforma de Global Fishing Watch para acceder a los datos.

Global Fishing Watch initiative
This is a transcendent alliance for industrial fisheries in the region, establishing a basis for technical cooperation between TUNACONS and Global Fishing Watch to strengthen transparency and improve science in the framework of conservation and management for the tropical tuna fishery in the Eastern Pacific Ocean.
The TUNACONS Foundation will participate with the 60 fishing vessels of its 8 members in research projects that seek to improve scientific knowledge about the tuna purse seine fishery, and at the same time, cooperate in compliance with the regulations set forth by the national fisheries authority and the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC).
The two organizations, through the application of advanced analytical tools to facilitate access to information on fishing efforts, recognize that cooperation in the exchange of fisheries information initiated between the two private entities will be advantageous to strengthen the sustainability of the fishery further.

Technical details
The mutual understanding agrees that the purpose of this Memorandum of Understanding (“MoU”) is to establish a framework of collaboration between the Parties for the exchange of data related to tuna fisheries and that for the fulfillment and development of the objectives of this MoU, the TUNACONS Foundation will share data associated with the Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) source of its members’ vessels or operated by them. Global Fishing Watch will use the data for the technological development of its products. It will provide a private workspace to the TUNACONS Foundation on the Global Fishing Watch platform to access the data.
