Junio es un mes especial para la pesca sostenible, y es que se conmemoran fechas muy importantes. Empezamos por el día mundial de los arrecifes, luego el medio ambiente, lucha contra la pesca ilegal, día de los oceanos, tortugas marinas, y el dia de nuestra gente de mar.

Desde TUNACONS trabajamos juntos por un ecosistema marino sano:
- Tenemos una cooperación técnica constante con el Fondo Mundial para la Naturaleza WWF-Ecuador.
- Impulsamos el fortalecimiento de la administración de la pesquería de atunes a nivel internacional a través de la cooperación científica con el personal de la Comisión Interamericana del atún tropical CIAT para apoyar la mejora de las evaluaciones poblaciones de atunes y reducir los impactos en los ecosistemas.
- También Cooperamos con la CIAT en implementar un Programa voluntario de Observadores en las embarcaciones pequeñas, catalogadas por su tamaño “menores a la clase 6”.
- Tunacons también impulsa en cooperación con el Ministerio de Producción, Comercio Exterior, Inversiones y Pesca el Plan Nacional para la Pesquería de Atunes y el Plan de Gestión de pesca sobre plantados, ambos en Ecuador, primer país productor de atún del Pacífico Oriental y segundo exportador a nivel mundial.
- Reemplazamos los materiales sintéticos utilizados en dispositivos de pesca llamados “plantados” por opciones 100% degradables como el bambú, palo de balsa y abacá.
- Se aplica un código de conducta de buenas prácticas para el manejo y liberación segura de capturas incidentales de las especies vulnerables como tiburones, tortugas y mantarayas.
- Desarrollamos la Iniciativa Cuidando Galápagos para apoyar la reducción de la contaminación de la Reserva Marina.
El trabajo para cuidar los atunes y su ecosistema es extenso, complejo y dinámico, pero estamos contentos de aportar en ello para que a tu mesa siempre llegue el mejor atún, saludable y sabroso pero que siempre provenga de una actividad:

From TUNACONS we work together for a healthy marine ecosystem:
We have a constant technical cooperation with the World Wildlife Fund WWF-Ecuador.
We promote the strengthening of tuna fishery management at the international level through scientific cooperation with the staff of the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission IATTC to support the improvement of tuna stock assessments and reduce impacts on ecosystems.
We also cooperate with the IATTC in implementing a voluntary Observer Program on small vessels, categorized by their size as “smaller than class 6”.
Tunacons also promotes, in cooperation with the Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries, the National Plan for the Tuna Fishery and the FAD Fishing Management Plan, both in Ecuador, the leading tuna-producing country in the Eastern Pacific and the second largest exporter worldwide.
We replace synthetic materials used in fishing devices called “FADs” with 100% degradable options such as bamboo, balsa wood and abaca.
We apply a code of conduct of good practices for the safe handling and release of bycatch of vulnerable species such as sharks, turtles and manta rays.
We developed the Caring for Galapagos Initiative to support the reduction of pollution in the Marine Reserve.
The work to care for the tuna and its ecosystem is extensive, complex and dynamic, but we are happy to contribute to it so that the best tuna, healthy and tasty but always coming from an activity, always arrives to your table:
